The Context I’ve spent most of my life behind a desk or buried in a draft, but as I’ve started building the That Jamie Bloke YouTube channel, I realized something: Confidence is a creative tool. It’s easy to give advice from the shadows, but showing up as a “Big Brother” figure for other self-published authors requires a level of presence that I wasn’t yet comfortable with. I didn’t just want to talk about discipline; I wanted to live it.
The Mission I have officially started a 12-week countdown to a professional fitness photoshoot.
This isn’t about vanity or trying to pivot into a “fitness influencer” role. It’s about the Blue-Collar Author mindset. If I’m asking you to be disciplined with your word counts, your KDP metadata, and your marketing strategies, I need to be just as disciplined with my own physical and mental health.
The Parallel Writing a Noir whodunnit like The Phantom Mask and training for a photoshoot are remarkably similar. Both require:
- The Repetition: Showing up when you don’t feel like it.
- The Long Game: Knowing that results aren’t visible in the first week.
- The Transparency: Owning the setbacks as much as the PBs.
What to Expect In this “Author’s Log,” I’ll be sharing the milestones. I’ll show the progress photos (the “strained” reality of the gym) alongside the progress of my first drafts. I’m doing this while working the 9-5 and finishing a trilogy, because I believe the best way to help this community is to show exactly how the sausage is made—sweat, ink, and all.
