My Step-by-Step Amazon Book Launch Plan — The Exact Process I Used for One Epic Year
Introduction
Launching a book on Amazon isn’t just about hitting “publish” on KDP.
If you want your book to rank on day one — and stay visible — you need a structured plan that covers everything from metadata to marketing.
When I launched my One Epic Year trilogy, I treated each release like a product launch. Here’s my exact process, start to finish.
Step 1: Prepare the Manuscript & Files
Before anything else, make sure your files are perfect:
- Kindle File: EPUB format, tested in Kindle Previewer.
- Paperback & Hardcover: PDF interior with correct trim size, bleed settings, and high-res images.
- Cover Design: Separate print and Kindle covers, with correct spine width based on page count.
Step 2: Set Up KDP Listings
On Amazon KDP:
- Book Details: Optimise title, subtitle, and series name for keywords.
- Description: Write an SEO-rich blurb that hooks readers (different from your back cover copy).
- Categories & Keywords: Pick competitive-but-relevant categories to rank faster; research long-tail keywords.
- Formats: Set up Kindle, paperback, and hardcover versions together so they link on your product page.
Step 3: A+ Content
This is your on-page sales tool. I created:
- Banner images showing the book’s tone & genre blend.
- “Meet the Characters” section with visuals.
- Pull quotes from early readers.
This not only made the page look professional, it increased conversion rates.
Step 4: Pricing Strategy
I used a tiered approach:
- Launch Price: Lower price for first 5–7 days to encourage sales and boost ranking.
- Standard Price: Raised after initial ranking push.
- Promos: Planned Kindle Countdown Deals or 99p offers for key marketing windows.
Step 5: Early Reviews
Amazon favours books with social proof early:
- Sent ARCs (advance reader copies) to my newsletter list.
- Encouraged honest reviews on launch day to help ranking.
Step 6: Marketing Push
On launch week, I:
- Posted daily on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook with reels, quotes, and teasers.
- Sent email blasts to my list.
- Cross-promoted in reader groups (relevant genre communities).
Step 7: Monitor & Adjust
For the first 72 hours:
- Checked sales rank hourly.
- Adjusted ad targeting (Amazon & Instagram).
- Boosted high-performing posts.
Closing Thoughts
Amazon rewards momentum — so the more sales, reviews, and clicks you can drive in the first week, the more Amazon promotes your book for you.
Follow this checklist, and you’re not just launching a book… you’re launching a campaign.
Authors, what does your check list look like? How long was the process for your launch?
